Pompeii

Another day of ridiculous traffic along the coast but we finally made it to Pompeii.  What an amazing place.  I had no idea the size and scope of the ruins.  30 feet of hot mud and volcanic ash covered the city in AD 79 with the eruption of Mt Vesuvius.  Of the 20,000 residents, 2000 were killed.  The restoration work is amazing.  That mosaic tiles and fresco's are still in tact.  It was really stunning.  We spent almost four hours wandering the city.  Definitely a must see.
On the way back to Amalfi we stopped in Positano for dinner at a charming restaurant.  The city was delightful and postcard perfect.
